Seatbelts

April 10, 2008

Seatbelts or Safety belts should be worn by all occupants of a car. Though, according to present traffic regulations in India, wearing a seatbelt is mandatory for the front passengers of a vehicle, and all vehicle manufacturers must provide seat belts on the rear seats for newly manufactured cars. In my opinion, the rear passengers as well should wear a seat belt at all times, while riding in a car. The risk of injury in a collision is 4 to 5 times greater for passengers in the rear not wearing seat belts in comparison to those wearing them.

In addition, the recommended manufacturer seatbelts should be used in the car. The 3-point safety belt with reel-back mechanism is by-and-large the most common form of seat belt available in the front seats of all passenger cars today. The slightly more expensive cars today, are also equipped with Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) and Airbags, and the seat-belts are also equipped with pre-tensioners. These active safety mechanisms help prevent injury to occupants in the event of a collision.

Highway fork

It is frequent, in fact, almost each time, when I express my love for driving that people will mistake it for my love for speed. I agree that speed thrills, and not always does speed kill, but it can sometimes hurt quite bad. So, this is where I start – drive responsibly. Wear your seatbelts, do not drink and drive, maintain speed limits and drive safely.
